The Department of Health through Undersecretary Nestor F. Santiago, Jr., discussed Universal Health Care and the importance of setting up Health Care Provider Network during the 19th General Assembly of Naga Imaging Center Cooperatives (NICC) Doctors today, March 17, 2024 at RJ’s Buffet Conference Hall, Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City.

During Dr. Santiago’s talk, the Universal Health Care Act (RA11223) as well as its four (4) main principles which are: (1) integrated and comprehensive approach, (2) whole-of-system, whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach, (3) comprehensive health services without causing financial hardships and (4) people-oriented approach were comprehensively discussed.

Dr. Santiago further put emphasis on the roles of health care providers in achieving UHC and the importance of having a strong network of service delivery through establishment of Health Care Provider Networks (HCPNs) composed of public, private and mixed health care providers in the region. HCPNs are essential components of UHC as it streamlines provisions of health care across or even beyond the region that will help in realizing the UHC’s ultimate goal for all people to have access to full range of safe, quality, affordable, equitable and efficient health services without financial hardships.

This follows the spectrum of activities that the Department has been initiating to fully realize the visions of the Universal Health Care. (DOH/JCL)
