Over a thousand young Irigueños filled the Iriga City Sports Center yesterday for the Dunong IriguenYOUTH Congress (Katipunan ng Kabataan) 2025, an empowering platform designed to engage the youth in meaningful discussions on governance, leadership, and community participation.
The event, spearheaded by the Iriga City Youth Development Office (ICYDO) in collaboration with the City Government of Iriga, was divided into two major parts: the Youth Talks and Sessions in the afternoon and the Induction Ceremony of New Youth Officers in the evening.
The congress featured a series of discussions led by esteemed speakers, tackling critical issues relevant to the youth today. Among the topics were:
- Youth Laws, Their Roles, and Responsibilities in Nation-Building
- Mental Health: Dealing with Depression and Stress Management
- BIDA Kabataan: Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan
- Engaging Youth in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building
Speakers included Atty. Veronica Serrano, Nurse Angelo S. Cruz, RN, PO1 Jiobert D. Banania, and Ms. Jasmin B. Botor, RM, RN, EMT-D, LPT, among others.
The highlight of the evening was the formal induction of newly elected youth officers, marking a new chapter in youth leadership in Iriga City. The Hon. Miguel Luis R. Villafuerte, Congressman of Camarines Sur’s 5th District, served as the inducting officer. Hon. Luis Raymond “Lray” Villafuerte, Jr., Congressman of Camarines Sur’s 2nd District was also present to show his support Irigueños for the youth.
Esteemed leaders, including Mayor Rex C. Oliva and Vice Mayor Edsel S. Dimaiwat, delivered inspirational messages, reinforcing the city’s commitment to youth development and empowerment. Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod were also present in the event.
To cap off the successful event, participants enjoyed a Dance & Party with the Firefly Alley Band, bringing the youth together in celebration of their shared aspirations for a brighter future.
The Dunong IriguenYOUTH Congress 2025 reaffirmed the city’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and changemakers. As young Irigueños left the venue, they carried with them not just newfound knowledge but also a renewed passion for community involvement and nation-building.
