The P5.768-trillion 2024 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) is crafted to meet the essential needs of the Filipino people.
Social services like education, health, social security, and employment, among others have the biggest allocation of P2.183 trillion under the GAB — largest in the country’s history.
This only means that the government is investing in its greatest asset — its people — as it aims to lay a stronger foundation for sustainable growth and inclusive development.
The 2024 budget mirrors the aspirations of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration, particularly focusing on the realization of the three legacy projects pivotal to the nation’s progress: Legacy Specialty Hospitals, Legacy Housing for the Poor, and Legacy on Food Self-sufficiency.
Under the effective leadership of Speaker Martin Romualdez, the House of Representatives was able to prove its firm devotion to the Filipino people through this bill. As stressed by Speaker Romualdez, the House handed over to the Senate “a budget that addresses the urgent needs of our nation, ensuring every peso is accounted for and is directed towards the welfare and dreams of our people.”
The realigned funds amounting to P194.5 billion are strategically invested in the nation’s security sector and social services as the House recognizes the immediate need to alleviate the economic pressures caused by global inflation. We vow to ensure that Filipinos are not left vulnerable to the economic challenges that lie ahead.
We likewise assure that the 2024 GAB is aligned with the Supreme Court’s directive to abolish the pork barrel system, ensuring a transparent, accountable, and corruption-free budget. This move has been central to the reforms undertaken by the House in this year’s budget proceedings.
The 2024 GAB now stands before the Senate, carrying with it the collective hopes and efforts of the government to safeguard the nation’s prosperity and the well-being of its citizens.
