The Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) – Camarines Sur collaborated with the Environment, Disaster Management, and Emergency Response Office (EDMERO CAMSUR) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG CamSur) for the training and workshop on the Barangay Youth Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (BYDRRMP) and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM) Programs on April 5-6, 2024, at 11th Earth, Nabua, Camarines Sur.

Aiming to empower the SK officers and equip them to become disaster-resilient youth leaders, resource speakers from the EDMERO and DILG facilitated the two-day training and workshop.

“Yung BYDRRMP po ay isang plano kung saan matuturuan na maging disaster-resilient yung mga kabataan. Napakaimportante po nitong activity kasi bilang mga SK [leaders], tayo po ang nagiging frontliners pagdating sa mga programa, proyekto, at aktibidad patungkol sa sektor ng kabataan,” explained BM Justmine San Buenaventura, SK Provincial Federation President.

San Buenaventura also pointed out that with CamSur being one of the provinces prone to natural disasters, it is only imperative that the youth have proactive participation in DRRM, especially in planning and crafting strategies for disaster mitigation.

Thirty (30) SK federation presidents and secretaries of the municipalities of Del Gallego, Lupi, Gainza, Minalabac, San Fernando, Bombon, Balatan, Bato, Nabua, Pamplona, Tinambac, Buhi, Bula, Pasacao, Baao, and Pili attended the workshop. On the last day, they crafted and presented their proposed programs, projects, and activities (PPAs) under the four (4) thematic areas of DRRM namely, (1) Prevention and Mitigation, (2) Preparedness, (3) Response, and (4) Recovery and Rehabilitation.

The SK officers are expected to cascade their learning to their fellow officers in their respective municipalities to ensure the broader dissemination and implementation of DRRM and CCAM strategies at the barangay level.
