Iriga: Polangui Solo parents to reap added benefits from OK’D ordinance

Solo parents from Polangui, Albay will soon enjoy added benefits after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Albay (SPA) finally approved an ordinance passed by the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of the town.

Upon the review by the SPA, through Hon. Eva Josephine Ribaya, the Ordinance No. 018 Series of 2023 of Polangui entitled, “An Ordinance Institutionalizing the Programs, Services, Privileges, and Benefits for Solo Parents and Appropriating funds thereof and for other purposes pursuant to Republic Act 11861 also known as the Expanded Solo Parent Act” received approval during the provincial board’s 78th Regular Session on Tuesday.

Significant suggestions from concerned offices during the previous committee meeting were considered, granting additional benefits to solo parents, entitling them to a 10% discount.

Additionally, solo parents will also be granted exemption from Value Added Tax (VAT) on babies’ milk, food, micronutrient supplements, sanitary diapers, prescribed medicines, vaccines, and other medical supplements purchased from the birth of the child, or children under 6 years of age, for solo parents earning less than P25,000 annually.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Albay’s approval of this ordinance highlights its dedication to addressing the unique needs of solo parents in Polangui, acknowledging the challenges they encounter and affirming its commitment to offer practical support under existing laws.
