As the campaign period for candidates vying for seats in the House of Representatives, as well as parliamentary, provincial, city, and municipal positions, officially begins on March 28, 2025, the Police Regional Office 5 (PRO 5) headed by PBGEN ANDRE P DIZON, RD is tightening security measures to ensure a peaceful, fair, and orderly election. Given the heightened political activity, the unit is taking proactive steps to prevent disruptions, violence, or any form of election-related disturbances that could compromise public safety.
Among the key measures being implemented is the increased deployment of police personnel. This move aims to deter potential threats, maintain order, and swiftly respond to any incidents that may arise during campaign activities, such as rallies, motorcades, and public assemblies. Additionally, bike and motorcycle patrols will be reinforced, ensuring a stronger presence of law enforcement in both urban and remote areas. This heightened visibility is crucial in making the police more accessible to the public, allowing for quicker response times in case of emergencies. To further strengthen security, PBGEN DIZON, has directed more aggressive police operations, which will focus on crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and neutralizing possible threats to public safety.
In line with its commitment to uphold election rules and regulations, PNP Bicol will provide necessary security and support to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in the implementation of โOplan Baklasโ, a campaign aimed at removing unlawful campaign materials. The operation, which is set to begin tomorrow, targets posters and banners that are illegally placed outside designated campaign areas, exceed the allowed size limits, or fail to comply with environmental guidelines. Under COMELEC Resolution No. 11086, all candidates and political parties are required to remove prohibited campaign materials at least 72 hours before the official start of the campaign period. Failure to comply may result in sanctions or disqualification.
With these enhanced security measures, PRO 5 remains committed to ensuring safe, orderly, and peaceful polls. The unit urges candidates and their supporters to adhere to election laws and campaign ethically, free from violence and unlawful practices. The campaign period for local candidates will run until May 10, 2025, during which law enforcement agencies will continue to monitor and enforce election-related policies to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
