Fifty-nine (59) local frontliners and community leaders in the Municipality of Sagñay completed the 3-Day First Aid and Basic Life Support (FA/BLS) Training, organized by the MDRRMO Sagñay, with the training conducted by the EDMERO CAMSUR of Camarines Sur, on June 22-24, 2026, at the OCD Building in San Isidro, Sagñay.
Participants came from the Rural Health Unit (RHU), Sagñay Infirmary, Gryphon Sagñay Volunteers, and Barangay Officials, including councilors, Barangay Health Workers (BHW), and Barangay Tanods.
The training covered essential lifesaving skills such as CPR, rescue breathing, defibrillation, emergency care, first aid, and patient handling. The program concluded with written and practical examinations to assess the participants’ knowledge and readiness to respond to real-life emergencies and disasters.
According to Elmer Jan Ibarrientos, EDMERO Training Unit Staff, the training is essential as emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere. “We hope this training will not only teach them new skills, but also inspire them to put this into practice and be more prepared to serve their community. So, every action they can take can make a difference, and maybe one day, they may even save a life,” he said.
Ibarrientos also commended the participants’ enthusiasm and eagerness throughout the three-day training and expressed hope for future sessions.
For Annabelle Reyes, 39, a Barangay Health Worker (BHW) for two years in Barangay Minadongjol, the training strengthened the skills and knowledge she needs during emergencies, as BHWs are often the first responder’s residents turn to before reaching a nurse or hospital. Recalling a past incident in which she assisted a motorcycle accident victim, she shared that the training deepened her understanding of how to respond effectively.
“Grabe kaming nanudan digdi. Pwede mi man ngani po [yan] i-share o itukdo sa ibang mga tawo. Arog po kaining may mga aksidente, may mga kaipuhan tabangan, at least may aram ka, dawa dai mo man masabing 100%, igwa man giraray”, Reyes said.
