Following the official declaration by PAGASA of the start of the rainy season and in light of the flooding incident that occurred last Monday, Mayor Rex C. Oliva convened concerned offices to a meeting to address the city’s rainy season preparedness and response strategies.
During the meeting, the Office of the City Engineer presented the findings from the inspection conducted after the heavy flooding last Monday. The report identified several flood-prone areas and the underlying causes of the rapid water rise, primarily due to clogged drainage systems, silted waterways, and uncollected solid waste obstructing canals.
In response, Mayor Rex directed the immediate implementation of mitigation measures to prevent further flooding which began on Tuesday, July 1. The operations include clearing and declogging of canals, creeks, drainage systems, and other waterways.
Mayor Rex assured the public that long-term infrastructure solutions are also being planned, but emphasized that proactive action and discipline remain critical in the fight against city flooding.
