(Legazpi City, January 8, 2026) Mayon Volcano has generated multiple pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) on January 8 following continued dome-collapse activity at its summit, PHIVOLCS reported.

Time-lapse footage captured the activity at 6:51 a.m., showing grayish ash clouds rising up to 1,000 meters before drifting west-northwest over nearby towns.

A total of 40 discrete PDC events have been recorded since midnight, indicating sustained volcanic unrest that authorities continue to monitor closely.

Thin ashfall has been observed in several areas, including Legazpi City, Ligao City, Guinobatan, Bacacay, Camalig, and Barangay Anislag in Daraga, prompting health advisories for residents to wear masks and cover water sources.

Authorities reminded the public that Alert Level 3 remains in effect, and entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) around Mayon Volcano is strictly prohibited due to the risk of sudden pyroclastic flows and falling debris.

Local government units and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office continue to coordinate evacuation plans, monitor affected communities, and provide assistance to residents near the volcano.

PHIVOLCS advised residents and tourists to stay informed through official advisories and to avoid areas near the volcano’s upper slopes until conditions stabilize.
