Troops of the 42nd Infantry (Tagapagtanggol) Battalion, 9th Infantry “Spear” Division, Philippine Army, successfully recovered a large cache of firearms and ammunition during a joint operation in Barangay Exciban, Labo, Camarines Norte on Tuesday, December 16.

The operation was conducted with the support of 16th Infantry “Maglilingkod” Battalion and the Philippine National Police, including the Camarines Norte 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and the 91st Special Action Company.

During the operation, troops discovered a concealed arms cache containing 25 M14 rifles, 2,245 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 15 M14 magazines, and 41 M16 magazines.

“This successful recovery of an arms cache containing high-powered firearms is the result of effective intelligence-driven and joint operations among our Army units and partner law enforcement agencies,” said Major General Aldwine I. Almase, Commander of the 9th Infantry Division.

According to the 9ID, the recovery reflects the continuing decline of the CPP NPA’s operational capability. Due to sustained military pressure and a significant decrease in their manpower caused by surrenders, arrests, and neutralization of their members, armed groups have been forced to conceal their weapons to avoid detection.

“The recovery of these firearms is a major accomplishment. By removing these weapons from circulation, we have eliminated a serious threat that could have endangered the lives and properties of our communities,” Maj. Gen. Almase added.

The 9th Infantry Division reiterated its call on the remaining members of the CPP NPA NDF to abandon the armed struggle and avail themselves of the government’s programs that support peaceful reintegration and a new life for former rebels.

Maj. Gen. Almase also assured the public that military operations will continue to ensure community safety, especially during the holiday season.

“Our offensive operations will continue against the remaining members of armed groups within our area of responsibility to ensure that our people can celebrate the coming Christmas season safely, peacefully, and without fear,” he said.

The recovered firearms and ammunition are now under the custody of the 9th Infantry Division for proper documentation and disposition in accordance with existing regulations.
