The Department of Education Bicol officially commenced its Regional Workshop on the Development of Storybooks for Children on July 9, 2025, with Regional Director Gilbert T. Sadsad gracing the occasion and delivering an inspiring message to the participants.
Organized by the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) – Learning Resources Management and Development Section (LRMDS), the workshop brings together participants from all 13 Schools Division Offices (SDOs). The activity aims to equip writers and illustrators with the skills to develop engaging and age-appropriate chapter books and comic books for young learners.
During the opening program, CLMD Chief Grace Rabelas extended her warm welcome and message of support to the participants, emphasizing the importance of quality learning resources in nurturing children’s literacy. Education Program Supervisor Nora Laguda, who oversees the Learning Resources portfolio of the regional office and serves as the lead of the event, ensured the smooth implementation of the workshop.
The first day featured a session on comic book introduction and illustration, facilitated by Mr. Alfonso Miguel Baleda, which provided participants with foundational knowledge and techniques in comic storytelling and visual design.
In the succeeding days, the workshop will focus on the development of comic stories, story writing, and other relevant activities that will culminate in the creation of original storybook materials for children.
