Twenty Bachelor of Science in Fisheries students from Bicol University Tabaco Campus (BUTC) have completed their on-the-job training at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Bicol on May 6, 2025.

The students rendered a total of 320 training hours from March 3 to May 5, covering key areas in aquaculture, post-harvest technology, and laboratory work.

As part of their aquaculture training, the students participated in lectures and hands-on activities such as selection of breeders, egg collection, fry and fingerling handling, feeding, and harvesting. In the post-harvest component, they were trained in value-adding processes, canning, and marketing of fishery products. They also engaged in laboratory works related to chemistry, microbiology, fish biology, and phycology, providing them with practical knowledge and skills essential in fisheries science.

The on-the-job training not only enhanced the students’ technical competencies but also gave them a deeper understanding of the real-world challenges and opportunities in the fisheries sector.
