Hospital divisions and medical staff of the Bicol Medical Center (BMC) took over the stage as they performed their Zumba choreographies during the “Sayaw Galaw para sa Healthy Pilipinas: Hospital Zumba Dance Contest!” held on February 26, 2024.
As an initiative of the Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol CHD), in partnership with BMC, the competition aimed to promote physical activity, wellness, and unity within the community and hospitals, as well as seeking behavioral change in healthy settings for Healthy Pilipinas.
In her message, Dr. Mary Jane G. Uy, Chief of Medical Professional Staff of BMC, said that the one of the objectives of the activity is for long-term mobility and strength. “We have to demonstrate to everyone that we are strong, able, and healthy,” she said.
The competing groups from the Nursing Service, Allied Service, Specialty Service, Medical Service, and Finance were able to incorporate the official Healthy Pilipinas choreography of Priority Area 1 (Diet and Exercise) in their routines, along with their best Zumba costumes and props.
With their grace and “Move More, Eat Right” moves, the ‘M.A.D. Mighty Allied Dancers’ from the Allied Service bagged the first place with a cash prize, certificate, and tokens.
Meanwhile, the ‘Angels of the Sick Room’ from the Nursing Service won second place and ‘The PTikTokers’ from the Specialty Service took third place.
“Pinatunayan ng Bicol Medical Center na hindi sa hugis ng katawan ang pag-physical exercise…ang importante ay ‘yung gusto nating maging healthy,” said Dr. Monrey Isaiah Mancilla, DOH Bicol’s Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Cluster (NCDPCC) and Health Promotion Unit (HPU) head, as he lauded BMC for their active participation in the said activity.
