The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), through its Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program in Bikol, has recently distributed livelihood interventions totaling Php 1,574,383 to Fisherfolk Associations in Catanduanes.

On August 19, 2024, the Maculiw Fisherfolk Association in Panganiban, Catanduanes, received 10 units of 22-foot motorized boats and various fishing gears from BFAR SAAD Bikol. Valued at Php 1,333,953, the equipment aims to enhance the association’s fishing capabilities, thereby boosting productivity and sustainability in the local fishing industry. 25 members of the association attended the turnover ceremony. The new boats and gears are expected to significantly improve the fisherfolk’s ability to efficiently harvest marine resources, positively impacting their livelihoods.

In another initiative on August 16, 2024, BFAR SAAD Bikol distributed tilapia feeds in Progreso, San Miguel, Catanduanes. The distribution included 200 bags of feeds—comprising finishers, starters, growers, and pre-starters—worth Php 240,430. 29 association members participated in the event. This initiative is part of BFAR SAAD Bikol’s ongoing efforts to support local fish farming practices and increase fish production in the area.

These interventions underscore BFAR SAAD Bikol’s dedication to sustaining the agricultural and fisheries sectors in Catanduanes, ensuring that local communities are equipped with the resources and support needed to thrive.
