(Legazpi City, January 9, 2026) The Provincial Government of Albay is set to launch the 2026 Governor’s Cup as a key initiative to position the province as a premier destination for sports tourism.

The multi-event tournament aligns with the Department of Tourism’s nationwide Sports Tourism campaign aimed at using athletic events to drive visitor arrivals and local economic growth.

Provincial officials said the Governor’s Cup will feature two major divisions, namely the Inter-Town Category and the Inter-School Category.

The Inter-Town Category will field teams from cities and municipalities across Albay to promote local pride and regional travel, while the Inter-School Category will showcase student-athletes from secondary and tertiary institutions to identify grassroots talent.

Officials emphasized that the tournament is envisioned not only as a sporting competition but also as a strategic platform to support economic recovery.

Matches will be hosted in various venues across the province to attract visitors and generate business for hotels, restaurants, transport services, and other local enterprises.

The Provincial Government of Albay is coordinating closely with sports coordinators and tourism officers to ensure participant safety and a smooth experience for visiting teams and spectators.
