Today, at the Heroes’ Shrine within Camp BGen Simeon A. Ola, the men and women of Police Regional Office 5 stood in solemn unity to observe the Day of National Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of the SAF 44.
A simple yet profound ceremony was held to honor the eternal valor and supreme sacrifice of the 44 gallant members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force who fell in the line of duty in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, eleven years ago.
The program was graced by the presence of PBGen Erosito N Miranda, Acting Regional Director, PRO5, who led the proceedings. He read the heartfelt and inspiring message of the Chief, PNP, PGen Jose Melencio C Nartatez, Jr., reinforcing the enduring legacy of the SAF 44 as the “nation’s sentinels of peace.”
Following the program, a poignant Wreath-Laying Ceremony was conducted at the shrine. Offering floral tributes were:
PBGen Erosito N Miranda, Acting Regional Director, PRO5 with the DRDA, PBGen Rogelio Z Raymundo, Jr.
PLTCol Jabesh Napolis, a classmate of the late PSI Max Jim R Tria, a Bicolano hero among the fallen SAF troopers
PLTCol Samuel B Mangetag, Jr, Commander of the 9th Special Action Battalion
Patrolman Gio R Tria, the younger brother of the late PSI Max Jim Tria, who continues the family’s legacy of service within the PNP.
This day was more than a ceremony; it was a powerful reaffirmation of the core values that define our service: Dedication, Fidelity, and Sacrifice. The memory of the SAF 44 serves as a perpetual beacon, inspiring every member of the uniformed service to persevere in our mission to serve and protect. It also reminds our beloved Bicolano community of the profound courage embodied by those who wear the badge.
