Infectious Disease Center To Rise In ZCMC

An infectious diseases center will soon rise inside Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) to cater for emerging and re-emerging diseases.

Dr. Afdal Kunting said, two isolation facilities will rise to cater for patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), and others.

The first isolation center is a birthing clinic that will be renovated to be converted into an isolation center by the World Bank amounting to ₱ 9 million. This will have five negative pressure rooms.

The second will be funded by the national government amounting to ₱ 35 million. This can accommodate 90 patients.

Kunting said they are targeting this will be finished by the middle of next year.

Aside from these, a molecular laboratory will be housed in the area intended for testing.

If this will be realized, Covid patients will be transferred to the Infectious disease center from the ZCMC Out Patient Department Building.

The Outpatient building can again be used for the out patients. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
