The City Health Office (CHO) is looking an increase of cases of Covid-19 as we start our new year.

City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite claimed she expects an increase in the number of COVID-19 infections after the Yuletide season.

City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite said the City Government is continuously

identifying and preparing isolation facilities so that there will be sufficient facilities when the need arises.

She said health authorities anticipate the rise in cases due to discreet violations of safety and health protocols.  “Necesita siempre kita continua di aton health habits (We still need to continue our healthy habits) – eat healthy foods

this holiday season and always keep in mind that the virus does not have a holiday. Let us all celebrate (Christmas) safely.”

On the other hand, Miravite stressed that the fight against COVID is far from over, as it will continue until there is a vaccine and a herd immunity is attained.

“So until that time everyone must contribute and must individually be responsible to protect each other and conserve our resources,” the city health officer said stressing that the cost of being afflicted or infected with the disease is high and expensive and can result to the loss of lives.

As of December 14, Miravite reported that confirmed COVID-19 cases for Zamboanga City now total 3,508 with 3,167 recoveries, with current 184 active cases and 157 mortalities. Recovery rate for Zamboanga City remains at 90 percent. If the total active cases, 42 are admitted at the ZCMC, 40 are confined in private hospitals while the are at the LGU-operated isolation facilities,  according to Miravite.
