ICRC Starts ₱2.2M Project Inside ZCJ

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) started several projects inside the Zamboanga City Jail (ZCJ) last week to alleviate the plight of the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).

SJO2 Rey Laurence Comprendio, ZCJ Information Officer, said three projects are on going inside the jail facility improvement of water supply, improvement of ventilation, and improvement of perimeter lighting which cost ₱ 2.2 million to be finished by 60 calendar days.

For improvement of water supply this will includes: installation of motor pump, donation of plumbing tools, and fixing of pipelines.

For the improvement of ventilation installation of blowers and exhaust fan will also be done. And for the improvement of perimeter lighting it includes fixing of electrical wirings inside the jail facility, upgrading of perimeter light to solar power lights, and repair of the standby generator of ZCJ.

“Grande ayuda este na jail facility especially uno problema na jail el ventilation y congestion.” Comprendio said.

Especially for the water supply improvement, if this will finish the water can now reach the second floor PDLs will no longer have to get and carry their water from the first floor to the second floor.

Currently, the jail has a population of 2,927 for the male PDL’s.
