NATIONAL team mainstay Treat Huey reunites with Frederik Nielsen of Denmark in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) 250 Sardegna Open that kicks off on Wednesday on the red outdoor clay courts of the Cagliari Tennis Club in Italy.

The unseeded Filipino-Dane duo will go up against third seeds Matthew Ebden of Australia and Divij Sharan of India.

“It’ll be a good test against the No. 3 seeds but I believe if we play well, we could beat any team,” Huey told BusinessMirror Sports in an overseas phone interview on Monday. “We’ve been practising the last two days and we’re playing very well so I’m sure it’ll be good.”

Huey and Nielsen already plated together five times in the last decade, reaching the finals of the Binghamton Challenger in 2011 and lifting the trophies in the Charlottesville Challenger in 2014 and Vancouver Challenger in 2015.

The pair absorbed a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen of Germany in the quarterfinals of the Swedish Open in July 2019 and in their last pairing later in the same month also took a 4-6, 6-7 setback to the same opponents who eventually won the Swiss International Championships in Gstaad.

“It’s great to pair with Frederik again,” said Huey, currently ranked 119th in the world doubles rankings. “He’s one of my good friends on the tour in the last 10 years or so, so it’s good to play with one of your good friends.”

“We believe we can win. That’s how we feel and I think we’ve shown that before so we’re going to go out there and try to prove that,” Huey added.
