Heavy downpour causes flooding in some parts of Zamboanga City

Authorities confirmed the death of one person earlier reported missing due to severe flooding in barangay Mercedes Sunday, December 25.

Records from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) also reveal that 6 houses were totally washed away by the strong water current following incessant rains that started on Christmas eve.

CSWDO Chief Ma. Socorro Rojas said her office has served food packs, water, mats and blankets to the affected families, even as assessment and validation continues.

No less than Mayor John Dalipe together with Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja spearheaded the distribution of the food packs and other relief goods to be flood-hit families at the Putik Central School evacuation center.

Based on CSWDO records, these are the details of the displaced families in affected barangays and other details as of December 25, 2022:

1. Culianan – 60 families
2. Putik – 100 families
3. Sangali – 100 families
4. Guisao – 40 families
5. Cabaluay – 60 families
6. Boalan – 50 families
7. Tumaga – 113 families
8. Pasobolong – 30 families
9. Mercedes- 185 families
Individuals- 617
Totally Damaged- 6
Casualty- 1
10. Salaan – 10 families

Rojas said only those affected from Putik remain at the Putik Central School covered court while 30 affected families from Guisao are temporarily housed at the barangay hall and the school.
