The 13 Filipino sailors of bulk carrier MV Angelic Power who have been stranded in China for the past 17 months finally arrived in the Philippines on Thursday and are now in quarantine, the Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) reported.

Upon their arrival, they were greeted by the MMC team and were transported to a quarantine facility.

As a requirement of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), the Department of Health, and the Bureau of Quarantine, the seafarers will undergo the 10-day mandatory isolation.

An online debriefing was also conducted by Magsaysay executives and fleet personnel on the crew members.

An online medical consultation was also arranged for them to provide emotional and psychological support.

The MMC has assured that they will monitor the seafarers “throughout their quarantine and ensure that they all get home safely to their families and loved ones.”

Through ship’s Principal, Grimaldi Marine Partners (GMP), lawyers were hired in Guangzhou to protect the crew’s interests while they were stranded in China while also working on their repatriation.

“Magsaysay would like to thank the ship’s Principal, Grimaldi Marine Partners for their unwavering and steadfast support in helping our Filipino crew during the legal proceedings against the shipowners of M/V Angelic Glory,” the MMC said noting that
ship owners were unable to address their financial obligations to all parties.

The MMC also extended their deepest appreciation to the Philippine government.

“The repatriation of our Filipino crew would not have been possible without the efforts and support extended by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Labor and Employment, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the Philippine Consulate in China, and members of Congress,” the MMC said.

The MMC also thanked the crew and their families “for their understanding, patience, and trust.”
