Fake News Triggers Vaccination Doubts

Bacolod City – Doubts in the government’s Covid-19 vaccination rollout can partly be blamed on fake news shared on social media, assistant provincial health officer, Dr. Jessica Pama, said.

Pama advised Negrenses to get Covid-19 vaccination information only from valid and legitimate sources, such as the World Health Organization, Department of Health, and local government unit health advocacy programs, and not on social media.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, said earlier that there are still problems in vaccination acceptance at the local level, but he said that these are being addressed.

Fake news and information on social media are not valid and evidence-based, Pama stressed.

Meanwhile, Pama also said that, aside from mass gatherings, the local transmission of Covid cases could be traced to close contact in the family, work places, and from places that one had visited.

While local cases are on a downward trend, she stressed that people must not be complacent because the results vary, depending on the release of test results from the molecular laboratory. Pama said local government units are not regularly sending swab test results.

Pama admitted they are confronted by the local transmission of the virus, that originates from mass gatherings, since the provincial government of Negros Occidental managed to control the travel of people, with the 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew hours being implemented.

INOCULATION BENEFITS

“Getting inoculated is not an assurance that you are already protected, or will not contract Covid. The beauty of immunization is you will not be in serious condition, or end up dead, because of Covid,” she stressed.

“If you submit to immunization, this is not only for yourself, but for the protection of your family, and the people around you,” she said as she reiterated her call for the public to avail of the free vaccines.

3 CAPITOL WORKERS INFECTED

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz, meanwhile, said that three more Capitol workers, including a nurse at the Hinobaan District Hospital, and two accounting employees, were infected by the virus.

This brought to 16 the number of Capitol workers now in isolation at the Mambukal Mountain Resort facility in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia. The 39 other Capitol employees infected earlier have fully recovered and have returned to work, Diaz said. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
