An official of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Tuesday said a study that will look into the “real-world performance” of Covid-19 vaccines on Filipinos will be conducted in June.

During the Kapihan Session of the Department of Health (DOH), DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development Rowena Cristina Guevara said that a P100-million budget was allocated for the said study.

“While the DOH is doing the vaccination, we will be choosing participants that we will observe after the vaccination after a year or so,” Guevara said in a mix of Filipino and English.

Guevarra said that the project will look at the “effects” of the vaccines, its “ethnicity” including its “period of efficacy”.

Around 1,000 participants are expected to join the study but the number would depend on the approval of study design.

Participants of this study will also include those who were not vaccinated.

“We expect that every quarter there will be milestones,” she said adding that they will have a report on the development every quarter.
