DOH Caraga Update

As of August 19, 2020, DOH Caraga confirms receipt of twenty-one (21) RT-PCR confirmatory results from the newly operational GeneXpert TB Reference Laboratory of Butuan Medical Center where 17 tested negative and four (4) turned positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The RT-PCR negative results are from a Suspect case from Butuan Medical Center (BMC), and sixteen (16) Individuals who had positive Rapid Antibody-based Tests or Close Contacts of previously confirmed cases.

The four new COVID19 cases reported by DOH Caraga are from Butuan City wherein 50% (2) are close contacts of a previously confirmed case and 50% (2) are new local transmission cases. About 50% (2) of the cases belong to ages 20-30 years old; and both sexes are equally represented. Around 50% (2) are asymptomatic while the other half is currently experiencing mild symptoms. Moreover, asymptomatic cases are strictly monitored in the designated quarantine facilities while symptomatic patients are admitted at identified hospitals for management.

As of Aug. 19, COVID-19 confirmed positive cases in Caraga region now totals to 397 with 325 (82%) recoveries that have been discharged and released, 69 (17%) are active cases, and 3 (0.8%) deaths. Butuan City local transmission cases have already reached to sixty-six (66). “The GeneXpert machine at Butuan Medical Center is finally operational and this will save us time. In the coming weeks, we are expecting more specimens to be processed and more tests to be done for COVID-19.
