Zamboanga del Norte – SFI concluded this week its Tugon sa Gutom Program (TSGP) in 5 barangays of Jose Dalman – the first LGU recipient of the HAPAG Kapitbahayanan Tugon sa Nutrition Program.

HAPAG Kapitbahayanan is a multisectoral nutrition program of Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Norte led by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist with the members of Provincial Nutrition Committee and SEAOIL Foundation.

SFI provided the training on sustainable farming and oversight in the monitoring and evaluation of the program using SFI TSGP’s M&E system.

Ninety-six (96) of the 109 trained households with malnourished children satisfactorily completed the program.

Helping the households produce vegetables at home improved overall food security status from moderately food insecure to mildly food insecure. The program also contributed to the reduction of malnourished children from 92 to 31, registering a 66% overall improvement rate.

Mayor Allen T. Ferrater of Jose Dalman thanked the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and SEAOIL Foundation for the program and pledged to pursue the initiative with its nutrition and Food Always in the Home (FAITH) programs.

The HAPAG Kapitbahayanan Tugon sa Nutrisyon program will be implemented anew in 2 municipalities before the end of the year, namely: President Sergio Osmena and President Manuel Roxas.
