Davao City (PIA) – The Department of Information, Communication and Technology (DITC) discussed Thursday cyber security during the “Strength in Convergence” conference of information officers from Compostela Valley.

The event, which took place in Tagum City, was attended by more than 20 information officers from municipal governments and national government agencies based in Compostela Valley.

“In today’s digital age, everybody should be concerned not only about their security in the physical world, but also in the cyber world,” said Albert Gabriel of DICT-Mindanao.

Warning of cybercrimes like identity theft, hacking and identity fraud, Gabriel advised the public to be responsible when using the internet.

“Huwag niyong i-click ang mga link from unreliable sources at huwag na huwag kayong mag post ng sensitive personal information lalong-lalo na sa social media,” (Don’t click on links from unreliable sources and do not post sensitive personal information particularly on social media) Gabriel said, adding that everyone is vulnerable to cybercrimes.

Organized by the Provincial Information Office of Compostela Valley, the Strength in Convergence event was a yearend assembly of information officers in the province.

During the assembly, Frances Mae Macapagat, officer in charge of the Philippine Information Agency XI, acknowledged the support of information officers in the municipalities and national government agencies in empowering the citizenry through information dissemination.
