Davao City:   Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio bared that based on the latest assessment with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the cases of COVID-19 due to the arrivals of overseas foreign workers and stranded persons in the city remain manageable that necessitate the need to add more domestic flights.

She said based on the first week of the resumption of flights in June 8, the impact of the COVID-19 cases from other areas of the country was minimal.

Duterte-Carpio suggested to add more flights from Manila to Davao Route and vice versa.

“We can add more domestic flights, possibly on the Manila-Davao-Manila route because of its strong demand,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio revealed that the Cebu Pacific-International, Cathay Pacific, and Silk Air have cancelled their respective flights up to the end of July, 2020.

She said it is a unilateral declaration that the three airlines have cancelled their flights towards the Davao International Airport.

Duterte-Carpio recalled that the domestic flights would resume on June 8 while the international flights resume on June 22.

“But the three airlines have cancelled their international flights and gave the notice that they would no longer fly to the city until the end of July, 2020,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio said the three airlines did not give the reason for the cancellation of flights. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
