Davao City – Davao City COVID-19 Vaccination head Dr. Josephine Villafuerte said that no serious side effects have so far been recorded among those injected with a dose of the coronavirus disease vaccine.

The former Davao City Health Office chief, on Tuesday, March 9, during the ‘Madayaw Davao’ program, dismissed fears over the severe side effects of the Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccines, which are being used in the ongoing immunization program in the city.

“So far, maayo ang response sa atong mga pasyente sa Sinovac, walay dapat ikahadlok,” Villafuerte said, stressing that minor effects are common to some.

Currently, the vaccination program in Davao City for medical workers is being simultaneously undertaken at the A. Mabini Elementary School in Bangkal and the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). It aims to cater to 300-500 clients daily from 8 am to 5 pm.

Villafuerte also said that the city government targets to open additional vaccination clusters to cater to the remaining listed individuals in the first priority group, which consists of healthcare workers, senior citizens, indigent population, and uniform personnel.

The city identified the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) and Magallanes Elementary School as additional vaccination sites.

“Kung mag-abli na ta’g frontliners, kinahanglan mag-open kami og tulo ka mga facilities para paspas pud ug para dili na sila magpila og maghulat,” Villafuerte said.

Villafuerte also reminded the public that they are still accepting registration for Davao residents who want to take part in the COVID-19 vaccination program.

“Ongoing ang registration for the general population. Mag-adto lang sila sa ilang health centers or health stations, magpalista sila para atong allocation atong masigurado ([Our] registration for the general population is ongoing. They must go to their health centers or health stations and list their names so that proper allocation will be ensured),” Villafuerte added.

Meanwhile, Villafuerte also noticed a good acceptance rate among the general public of the city’s vaccination program. (City Information Office | Michael Manguhig, RPN DXKT Davao OIC)
