Davao City – While Davao City has recorded a continuous downtrend of COVID-19 cases for weeks now, Davao City Health Office acting head Dr. Ashley Lopez on Wednesday, March 24, urged fellow Dabawenyos to continue cooperating and supporting the government’s campaign against the coronavirus disease.

“We are not yet safe, with or without the vaccine. That’s why we cannot be complacent, so ipadayon nato ang atong pag-cooperate ug pag-patronize on what is being advocated for by our government, particularly on surveillance,” Lopez said, during the ‘COVID-19 Alert’ program on Davao City Disaster Radio.

The local health chief has constantly reminded Dabawenyos to make themselves familiar with the city’s COVID-19 regulations by observing the minimum public health protocols like wearing of face mask and face shield, social distancing, and frequent handwashing using water and soap to fight against the deadly virus.

Lopez also called on all Dabawenyos to reach out to their district health offices if they know of someone who is sick with flu-like symptoms or if they have a cough, colds, sore throat, fever, and other flu-like symptoms for a consultation.

“Kini para dili nato ma-compromise not only ourselves but ato pud ma-protektahan ug mapugngan ang possible Covid infection sa atong mga kapamilyahan, sa atong mga silingan ug sa atong komunidad,” Lopez said.

Lopez also thanked private organizations, government offices, and other support agencies for intensifying education about COVID-19.

“Dakong tabang gyud nga imong maedukar o matagaan og tamang impormasyon ang mga tao to prevent transmission,” Lopez added.

The city government has strengthened its health and safety measures against the coronavirus disease to prevent possible infections.

These include reinstating stricter border control measures such as requiring  RT-PCR testing for all arriving travelers at the Davao International Airport (DIA).

Recently, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte has signed on March 24, the Executive Order (E.O.) 12-A or “An Order Providing For Updated COVID-19 Protocols in Davao City,” which sets new provisions on COVID-19 protocols, which will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, March 26, this also includes extending of the curfew hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every day and liquor ban until May 31, 2021.
