D.A. Davao Region: Plant Your Own Food During Community Quarantine

Davao City:  With people getting restless during the community quarantine, it’s high time for people to do something productive and turn back to agriculture by planting their own food.

The Department of Agriculture-XI through the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) in partnership with the City Agriculturist’s Office, launched the Stay at Home, Magtanom! initiative. It aims to encourage residents to plant their own vegetables through backyard gardening, giving them healthier food options during the quarantine period.

The program distributes lowland vegetable seed packs provided by the HVCDP, which in turn is delivered to the Davao City residents in their respective homes by the City Agriculture Office. Seed germination and planting guide is also given along with the vegetable seed pack.

Seeds have also been distributed to the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office of Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, and Davao Occidental.

The pack contains the following vegetables:
• Ampalaya
• Okra
• Eggplant
• Tomato
• Pechay
• Pole Sitao
• Calabasa
• Kangkong

For Baguio District, send your name, location, and number to 09233103842. For other areas, send a message to the Davao City Agri Office page or contact 09335285488. They will determine the nearest City Agri. District Office for the delivery.

You can also get the seeds at the DA-XI office located at F. Bangoy. St. Agdao, Davao City. Remember to follow safety protocols when entering the office and always wear a face mask. | RAFIS 11
