CSC to conduct online career service examinations this year

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) will be piloting its online exam this year as the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic prevents it from conducting its usual written exam.

In a Viber message, CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada confirmed BusinessMirror that the online career service exam (CSE) is now in the works.

“We will give updates once we finalize [it details],” Lizada said.

Ongoing restrictions

Lizada made the remark after CSC announced it is still unable to release a schedule for its written test due to public health measures against Covid-19 such as restrictions for mass gathering.

“With this, the announcement regarding the CSE–Professional and Subprofessional levels to be administered this year would be made once CSC has firmed up the different modes of the conduct of examination and the appropriate schedules thereof,” CSC said in a statement issued on Monday.

Among the said options is the online exam, which CSC started considering during the last quarter of 2020.

Aside from CSC, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) also announced last week it is targeting to conduct online licensure exams this year to also minimize the risk of its participants from being infected with Covid-19.

Special eligibility

While there is still no scheduled CSE this year, CSC said aspiring public servants may still qualify civil service eligibility through other special means.

These include board eligibility; barangay health worker eligibility; barangay nutrition scholar eligibility; barangay official eligibility; electronic data processing specialist eligibility; and foreign school honor graduate eligibility.

Other people who may gain civil service eligibility are those with honor graduate eligibility; Sanggunian Member Eligibility; scientific and technological specialist eligibility; skills eligibility-category 2; and veteran preference rating.

“Qualified applicants may apply for these eligibilities through CSC’s Regional Offices,” CSC said.
