ROSEKIE CRISTOBAL faces Puerto Rican Jeffery Torres in a six-round non-title super lightweight fight on Saturday at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey.
Known for being the tallest Filipino active boxer at 5-foot-10, the southpaw Cristobal (15-5 win-loss record with 11 knockouts) is debuting in the US against 5-foot-11 Torres (8-1 record with four knockouts).
“He [Cristobal] is here to prove something for himself,” trainer Dion Asuncion said. “He trained very well and I saw his determination. He really wanted to get back and redeem himself.”
Cristobal is coming off a three-fight losing skid—all by knockout. And the 24-year-old Torres is absolutely a dangerous foe for Cristobal after he scored a first-round technical knockout win over Jader Alves de Oliveira last October 16 in Framingham.
Cristobal, a 26-year-old President Roxas (Cotabato del Norte) native, is managed by Greg Asuncion.
