Voters may soon “reactivate” their status with the Commission on Election (Comelec) via email.

In her Facebook account, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon announced the option, which will benefit 6.3 million deactivated voters, may become available this month.

She said they may do away with the personal appearance of the said voters for their reactivation since their biometrics data are still in the Comelec database.

The Voter’s Registration Act states a registration may be deactivated in the book of voters once an individual fails to vote in the two successive preceding regular elections.

Deactivated voters will no longer be allowed to participate in the upcoming elections, unless they reactivate their registration record with the local poll office of the city/municipality where they are registered.

If successfully processed, the 6.3 million deactivated voters will join the 60 million voters, which be allowed to participate in the 2022 National and Local elections.
