Climaco Orders Close Watch On Oxygen Supply In Zambo

Medical oxygen is an essential medicine in the treatment of Covid-19. Hence, Mayor Beng Climaco has instructed the local IATF and the City Health Office (CHO) to exert efforts that would ensure sufficient supply of medical oxygen in Zamboanga City.
Climaco’s instruction came on the heels of the reported shortage of medical oxygen tanks in other places, notably in Luzon and some parts of Mindanao like Zamboanga del Sur, where severe Covid-19 infections have surged due to the more transmissible Delta variant.
Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, chief LIATF implementer, said the city government earlier on had purchased some medical-grade oxygen tanks “but what is more important is the supply, and we will make sure that we have it when the need arises.”
He said a memorandum of agreement will soon be forged with the suppliers of medical oxygen as instructed by the mayor.
Apolinario cited an instance that some neighboring provinces had requested for oxygen supply from the city. “That is why efforts must be done to prevent that (oxygen shortage) from happening in the city. Dr. Dulce (Miravite) and I will meet and check on this matter,” Apolinario said during the virtual presser Monday.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) has urged the public to avoid hoarding medical oxygen tanks to prevent “artificial shortage” amid the threat of a possible surge of Covid-19 cases due to the Delta variant, adding that President Duterte was eyeing to give the manufacturers a tax relief for their production of medical-grade oxygen.
