Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Libertad, Butuan City – Police Brigadier General ROMEO M. CARAMAT, JR., Regional Director, reported a generally peaceful and orderly celebration of Christmas eve which he credited to the stricter implementation of the health protocols amidst the covid-19 pandemic and deployment of PNP troops in all corners of the region to ensure a safe, peaceful and orderly celebration of the occasion and in preparation for the upcoming anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on December 26.

Based on the record of the Regional Tactical Operations Center, there was one isolated case in Sitio Tabon-Tabon, Brgy. Bacolod, Carrascal, Surigao del Sur wherein one Leonisito S. Olvida, 60 years old, married, driver and a resident of Brgy. Parang, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur, believed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor, indiscriminately fired his firearm. Responding PNP personnel of Carrascal Municipal Police Station (MPS) of Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office arrested the suspect and confiscated one caliber .45 pistol from his possession.

Olvida is currently under the custody of Carrascal MPS while the charge for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act is being prepared for filing in court against him.

Nevertheless, there was no firecracker related incident, fire incident, or reported case of stray bullet during the celebration.

All police units have implemented tight security measures, focused police operations, and intensified anti-criminality campaign even before the observance of the occasion.

Since the start of the yuletide season on December 16, a total of 3,478 Caraga cops and force multipliers were already deployed region-wide to provide maximum security coverage.

“The safety of all people is our major concern. Thus, we have deployed more police personnel to churches, main thoroughfares, malls, and other public places to keep the people safe from the lawless elements and to ensure that the people in Caraga strictly observed the minimum health standards,” PBGEN.
