The City Health Office remains vigilant in monitoring the number of COVID-19 cases and detecting any presence of the new strains of the virus in Zamboanga.

During last Monday’s virtual presser, city health officer Dr. Dulce Miravite assured Zamboangueños that her office is not letting its guard down with respect to the UK and South African variants of the COVID virus.

“There is no evidence that we have the new strains but we continue to monitor and send samples for genomic sequencing,” she said.

The local health official also reiterated her call for Zamboangueños to continue observing the minimum health/safety protocols to protect themselves and their family. She also encouraged the public to seek medical assistance if they experience any of the symptoms commonly associated with COVID.

“If you have fever, if you have cough, if you have colds, you have to stay at home and isolate. We have hotlines that you can call so we can evaluate you. Do not report to work and consult early so we can give you the proper treatment,” Dr. Miravite urged.

The city government has since employed stricter measures in response to the latest surge in COVID cases as well as the recently confirmed presence of the UK and South African strains in key parts of the country

In particular, Mayor Beng Climaco has issued last week Executive Order 646-2021 implementing, among others, the “No Swab, No Entry” policy for all inbound travelers regardless of the reason and purpose of travel. (Claudine Uniana)
