Davao City – A street cleaner of the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) was lauded for going above and beyond her job for reporting to the police the sachets of suspected shabu found along the road somewhere in Matina Aplaya on Tuesday.

The CENRO personnel, whose identity could not be disclosed for her safety, was on her routine work – picking garbage and cleaning the road on Tuesday morning when she found sachets of a crystalline substance believed to be shabu.

The CENRO personnel immediately reported it to the police and has been cited as contribution to the government’s fight against illegal drugs.

“Kinahanglan gyud na siya para kung kinsa man tong mga nakakita og mga ing-ana, kinahanglan isumbong gyud nato sa mga pulis para masugpo gyud nang droga (We need to report this incident so that if someone finds something like that, they report it to the police so drugs can be eradicated),” she said.

Initially, the personnel thought the whitish powder inside the sachet was “tawas” (alum) as it looked similar to shabu but started to be suspicious when she noticed a lighter and a tube with the sachets. She and her friend suspected that it could be shabu and must be handed over to the Matina Aplaya police.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director P/Col. Kirby John Kraft also commended the CENRO personnel and urged Dabawenyos to emulate the action of the CENRO personnel by reporting suspicious items and persons around their neighborhood.

“We should do our part as citizens of Davao City and report these kinds of suspicious incidents immediately to the authorities,” Kraft said.

Davao City has recently launched “Culture of Security,” a people-centered security awareness campaign with the tagline “May Nakita? Dapat Magsalita!” to adopt vigilance into their way of life. CIO
