Cases For Attempted Murder, Illegal Possession Of FA, Explosives Filed Against New People’s Army In Bacuag, Surigao Del Norte

Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City – Members of the New People’s Army under Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP) 16C2, Guerilla Front (GF) 16, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) who are behind the attempted killing of members of the 30th Infantry Battalion (IB), Philippine Army (PA) last Monday, July 12, in Bacuag, Surigao del Norte are now facing charges for attempted murder, violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act No. 9516 or the Illegal Possession of Explosives.

The three cases were filed against the identified members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in an inquest proceeding on July 13, 2021, before the Surigao del Norte Provincial Prosecutor’s Office with NPS Docket No. XIII-06-INQ-21G-131.

Around 3:00 PM on Monday, members of the 30IB, PA encountered members of the SYP16C2, GF16, NEMRC. The exchange of firefight lasted for 25 minutes that resulted in the recovery of one M4 Rifle “Bushmaster” with a magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition, one carbine rifle with magazine and eight rounds of ammunition, two 12-gauge homemade shotgun with a magazine, and three rounds of ammunition, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED) with blasting cap, and one hand grenade.

Two of the CTG members identified as Richard B. Lampad, 40 years old, a resident of Purok 3, Brgy. Pautao, Bacuag and Ronald N. Destajo, 40 years old, a resident of Purok 4, Brgy. Pautao, Bacuag died during the incident.

Another two CTG members were arrested identified as Benjie J. Destajo, 40 years old, a resident of Purok 3, Brgy. Cambuayon, Bacuag and Julito B. Madelo, 37 years old, a resident of Brgy. Pautao, Bacuag.

POLICE BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M. CARAMAT, JR., Regional Director of PNP Caraga commended the members of Bacuag Municipal Police Station for successfully filing charges against the perpetrators adding to the success in the government’s fight against criminality and insurgency.

“PNP Caraga in partnership with the AFP counterpart will continue to strengthen our aggressive operations and legal offensive against the Communist Terrorist Group until the day the Filipino people will witness their inevitable end,” RD CARAMAT, JR. said.
