Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday turned over various projects to the five Community Defense Units of Kapatiran of the province and the Parole and Probation Administration office.
The event was part of the culmination ceremony of the Negros Month of Peace at the Provincial Capitol.
A press statement from the capitol Public Information Office said that Kapatiran members represented by Wiflredo Rafinian received rice assistance, medicines, face masks, hygiene and medical kits, and food packs.
The Parole and Probation Administration represented by OIC Region-6 Director Grace Tomaro received P1-million financial assistance for various projects that focus on the fight against COVID-19.
“Today, the entire humanity is at war with a virus that threatens our health, our security, our economy, and most of all, our life. Solidarity among all sectors and generations is needed more than ever to win this war, to overcome the multi-faceted crisis of our lifetime,” Lacson said.
“May this pandemic remind us of our truth, that we are one people; COVID-19 knows no gender, no age, no sector, no politics.”
Lacson earlier signed Executive Order No. 20-12 Series of 2020 that included the Creation of the Site Coordinating Team to assist the Joint Enforcement Monitoring Committee in providing appropriate intervention to Kapatiran under the three-year Normalization Plan from 2019-2021.
Under Kapatiran Community Defense Units are the Peace and Development Communities at Sitio Ilan, Brgy. Locotan, Kabankalan City; Sitio Huebesan, Brgy. Villacin, Cadiz City; and Sitio Nangka, Brgy. Bagonbon, San Carlos City; and congregated sites at Sitio Binacay, Brgy. Talacdan, Cauayan; and Brgy. Mailum, Bago City.
Among the participating agencies in the activity were Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Health Office, Provincial Administrator’s Office, Philippine Army, and Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).
Also present in the program were Lt. Col. Harold Garcia of the 303rd IB Philippine Army, and Jason Encinares of OPPAP.
