CHRISTOPHER CALUZA and two-time winter Olympian Michael Martinez placed 22nd and 23rd, respectively, among 26 male participants in the short program of the Finlandia Trophy on Friday at the Espoo Metro Arena in Finland.

Caluza, a silver medalist in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, skated to Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” and garnered 59.74 in the short skate program. He highlighted his routine with double axel and triple loop combo with a triple lutz.

“I thought I could do what I thought I could do and I am glad that I was able to stay on my feet, that’s the most important part and to share my love with ice skating to the audience,” the 31-year-old Caluza, whose traces his roots to Olongapo City, told BusinessMirror on Friday.

He tallied 29.70 in technical score and 30.04 in program component. In the free skate also on Friday, he performed with Ludovico Einaudi’s “Experience By.”

Martinez, on the other hand, tallied 55.62 for 23rd place via “Requiem for a Dream” arranged and re-orchestrated by Jonas Kvarnström and Escala. He got 25.74 for technical score and 30.88 for the program component.

Martinez leaned on his triple lutz, triple axel and triple flip-double toe loop combo routing.
