The City Government intends to procure speed guns for traffic enforcers to monitor over speeding vehicles in Cagayan de Oro.

In his report during the City Council’s 21st regular session last Monday, December 5, City Councilor Romeo Calizo said traffic accidents in Cagayan de Oro have increased, recording an average of 11 accidents a day.

“These accidents happen because of violation of speed limits. Also, criminal elements take advantage of the loose enforcement of our speed limits so they can escape being caught by authorities,” Councilor Calizo said.

The city councilor further said that while the speed limits are well-defined in the Traffic Code of the City, traffic enforcers cannot impose said speed limits since they do not have any speed guns.

This was echoed by City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, who confirmed that the city does not have any possession of speed guns, and he plans to purchase some units.

“Wala pa man ta kahibalo tagpila ang speed gun basta naningkamot ta nga sa madaling panahon makaangkon gyud ta nianang maong speed gun aron ang pagdakop sa mga overspeeding nga mga magmaneho sa ilang motorsiklo,” Mayor Klarex Uy said.  (Cheleste Simene, photo courtesy of City Council)
