THE Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has recorded 32 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

BuCor spokesman Assistant Secretary Gabriel Chaclag informed the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday that aside from 32 deaths, there are still 14 active Covid-19 cases.

Two of the active cases are currently confined in hospitals, one was a person deprived of liberty (PDL) and one was a BuCor personnel.

Of the 14 active cases, of which two are in the hospital, Chaclag said the remaining 12 are all personnel of the BuCor who are all on self-quarantine since last week and on the way to recovery.”

A total of 776 BuCor personnel and PDLs were found infected with Covid-19 from the start of the pandemic up to April 13, 2021. On the other hand, a total of 730 recoveries have been recorded.

“We have over a hundred trainees and over a hundred PDLs who are rapid antigen positive. All asymptomatic and it has been more than a week since they were isolated. They are tested weekly using rapid antigen and once they are negative, they go back to routine jobs or old places,” Chaclag said when sought for an update on Covid-19 status in BuCor.

“Our BuCor Health Service is confident they are handling well our Covid-19 situation,” he added.
