Voting 6-4, the Benguet Electric Cooperative board of directors in its special session today rejected the National Electrification Administration
(NEA) endorsement of PCOO Asec Ana Marie Banaag as general manager of the electric utility serving Baguio and Benguet province.
The BoD reiterated its earlier decision endorsing Engr. Melchor Licoben as the utility’s general manager through Resolution No. 2020-90 last year.
The BOD will transmit its decision to the National Electrification Administration for further action.
Earlier the 121 Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (PHILRECA) is alarmed over the action of the NEA Board of Administrators (BOA) in the selection of the general manger of electric cooperatives, especially in the case of the Beneco.
The PHILRECA pointed out that the policy is clear that the list of applicants who passed the NEA board final interview, with necessary information and results of the background investigation, shall then be transmitted to the EC board for perusal and selection.
“The power and authority to select the general manager of the electric cooperative is vested to and is a major responsibility of the Board of Directors of the concerned electric cooperative.” The group stated.
