The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is awaiting the official report of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) before it can investigate the alleged sale of BaCTrac keychains that recently circulated online.

The Bacolod City coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Tracing System or BaCTrac is a web-based and mobile-based app developed for efficient and expeditious contact tracing of confirmed COVID positive patients and suspected cases in the city.

Major Sherlock Gabana, the BCPO’s representative to the EOC, said they were already informed about the report which alarmed the EOC because the BaCTrac IDs might contain false information.

Based on the information that reached the EOC, samples of BaCTrac keychains posted online are being sold at P65.

Gabana said there is a need to probe who is behind the selling of the keychains and who is using fake accounts used in the BaCTrac IDs.

The use of BaCTrac is mandated by City Ordinance 941 or the “COVID-19 Contact Tracing System Ordinance of Bacolod City.”

Gabana said anyone can just use someone’s BacTrac because establishments and offices do not ask for valid IDs to confirm the identity of the BacTrac ID holder.

He said the BCPO will investigate the matter once they receive the official communication from the EOC.

Meanwhile, more than 8,000 business establishments here have already registered in the BaCTrac System based on the latest data of the EOC Task Force.
