Amid light to moderate rains Tuesday brought about by Tropical Storm Kristine, the Philippine Marines and Navy displayed their prowess in handling weapons when dealing with enemy attacks.
The exercise showed how Marines communicate information to proceed in artillery firing and how they operate their assets to destroy a foreign aggressive vessel, Brig. Gen. Vince Blanco, commander of the 4th Marine Brigade stationed at Camp Cape Bojeador in Burgos town, told the media.
The soldiers used US-developed 105mm howitzer artillery and light armoured vehicles V300.
“Constant drills as to firing our weapons is part of the live fire exercise to prepare our armed forces for any eventualities or crisis,” Blanco said, noting that the bad weather added to the challenge.
The “Kamandag” (Venom) is an annual Philippine and United States Marine Corps-led exercises aimed to improve bilateral readiness and mutual capabilities in the advancement of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Aside from the combined arms littoral live firing and humanitarian assistance and disaster response exercises in Burgos, an amphibious assault, raid, and counter landing exercises were conducted separately in Aborlan and Rizal, Palawan. (Leilanie Adriano)
