The Ilocos Norte government is preparing a total of 1,667 governor’s medals to honor its top-performing academic students from senior high school to the tertiary level, both in private and public schools, universities, and colleges here.

The medals will be given specifically to students who garnered summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude and top honors in the senior high school level, confirmed Carolyn Juan, education research assistant of the Provincial Education Office, on Friday.

“We hope the governor’s medal will further inspire our students to make good in their studies,” Juan.

The following schools have already submitted the names of their top-performing graduating students who will receive the special medals: Data Center College of Laoag, Northern Christian College, and the Divine Word College of Laoag.

The medals will be handed out during their graduation rites.

Aside from academic achievers, the Ilocos Norte government is also honoring its outstanding youths who have excelled in their respective fields of endeavor.

Dubbed as the “Sirib Awards,” the annual event is being conducted to recognized their hard work and achievements in academics, sports, music, leadership, community, or public service, among others.

The Sirib Awards was institutionalized through Provincial Ordinance 010-2016.

The awardees, categorized as individual and group, excelled in academics, leadership, sports, journalism, culture, and arts, among others.

Along with certificates, medals and trophies, the awardees will also receive cash incentives from the provincial government. (Leilanie Adriano)
