The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Monday announced the availability of some 13,000 foreclosed properties nationwide that members can lease or buy.

GSIS president and general manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso, during the stakeholders dialogue at Sola Hotel here, said members can lease the housing units on a flexible term, with an option to buy on installment.

He said the priority is given to individuals with regular sources of income.

“The lease with the option to buy is one the reasons for our engagements with stakeholders in support of the Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) movement, enabling all of us to have decent homes,” he said.

Veloso said there is no need for a downpayment.

“Just search www.gsis.gov.ph and look for the acquired properties you wish to apply and talk to us,” he added.

Of the total foreclosed properties nationwide, the agency reported 149 properties available in Region 1 (Ilocos), mostly in Urdaneta, Pangasinan (79) and Vigan, Ilocos Sur (56).

The others are in La Union, three; and the cities of Dagupan and San Carlos, two each, and one each in the municipalities of Bani, Bayambang, Bugallon, Calasiao, Malasiqui, San Fabian, and Santa Barbara, all in Pangasinan.

As stated in the guidelines, the lessee can use the unit for residential purposes for one year, renewable every year at the sole option of the GSIS.

According to Veloso, the agency has been spending PHP3 billion on operational costs to maintain such assets.

During the same event, two long-time active GSIS members who availed of the housing program received their certificates of land titles from the agency. (Leilanie Adriano)
