The government has completed a two-lane road in Barangay Rubio in Galimuyod, Ilocos Sur, allowing for improved connectivity and better access to public facilities.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 1 said the newly constructed road spans 247.2 meters in length and six to eight meters in width.
“The concreting of the road brings significant economic and social benefits, improving access to public services and reducing transportation costs for farmers and traders,” district engineer Glenn Reyes said.
According to DPWH Region 1, the old road was a narrow unpaved pathway that was not conducive for transporting products, particularly during the rainy season.
“With a smoother and safer road surface, local businesses and residents can now move efficiently, ensuring the swift delivery of goods to the marketplace,” Reyes said.
The new road also gives access to a newly developed government lot where the town’s evacuation center and slaughterhouse are located.
To ensure the road’s durability and safety, Reyes said an embankment was constructed to elevate the road to complement the finish floor line of nearby constructed buildings.
A stone masonry slope protection was also installed on both sides to prevent soil erosion. Solar streetlights were also placed along the roadway to enhance security during nighttime.
The road project had a budget of PHP4.95 million sourced from 2024 Infrastructure Program based on the General Appropriations Act, according to DPWH Region 1. (Leilanie Adriano)
