Bacolod City – The Provincial Health Office reported 387 cases of typhoid with three deaths over the first three months of 2025, in Negros Occidental.
As the PHO logged 208 typhoid cases in the same period last year, it indicates an increase of 179 cases, or an 86.6 percent hike.
Typhoid is caused by the bacteria Salmonella Typhi, which spreads through contaminated food and water, or close contact with an infected person.
Thirty of the 31 local government units recorded typhoid cases, with Kabankalan City logging the most cases at 96.
Hinobaan ranked second in terms of the number of typhoid cases at 43, and San Carlos City followed with 33.
As of March 22, the Bacolod City Health Office also recorded 27 typhoid cases, which is an increase of 145 percent compared to 11 cases in the same period last year. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds)
